The Government of Ghana has approved the release of over GHS 76 million to fund the Black Stars’ campaign in the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Issued by the Presidency, the financial directive is aimed at providing the Senior National Football Team with the necessary resource stability as they compete on the global stage in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
The total disbursement of GH₵ 76,466,919.20 is structured to handle both immediate tournament logistics and past performance agreements.
The Ministry of Finance authorized the funding to ensure that both the technical team and the playing squad can maintain their focus strictly on their on-field performances.
A major portion of the funds, totaling GHS 58,929,500.00, has been allocated as a proactive advance.
This amount represents the cedi equivalent of five million US dollars and is specifically earmarked to facilitate team preparations and cover operational costs associated with the World Cup group stages.
Government officials noted that this early release underscores a national commitment to giving the team a competitive edge during the initial phases of the tournament.
The remaining GHS 17,537,419.20 has been cleared to settle outstanding qualification bonuses owed to the team.
Equivalent to nearly one and a half million US dollars, this payment fulfills a performance-based agreement established during the grueling qualifying series.
Under the initial terms of that system, the players received half of their earned bonuses during the qualifiers, with the remaining half guaranteed only upon securing a definitive spot at the World Cup.
In its official statement, the Presidency emphasized that the timely financial release is intended to provide peace of mind and motivation for the squad. As the Black Stars begin their prestigious tournament journey, the state has called upon Ghanaians across the country and the diaspora to offer their unwavering support to the national team.
