The Ghana Police Service has cautioned students to avoid acts of violence as the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) draws to a close.

A statement issued by the Service on June 18, 2026, urged candidates to remain disciplined, law-abiding, and to celebrate responsibly upon concluding their papers.

The Police reminded students that vandalism, arson, assault, and other unlawful behaviors carry severe criminal consequences that can permanently jeopardize their futures and derail their hard-earned academic careers.

The Service stressed that lawlessness will be met with swift legal action, stating, “The Police will not hesitate to arrest and prosecute any student found engaging in such conduct.”

To highlight the gravity of these warnings, the Service recounted recent violent disturbances where the involved students were arrested and face prosecution.

“The Service has recorded two recent incidents of student violence in the Upper East Region that resulted in the arrest of six students. At Zebilla Senior High Technical School, two students were arrested in connection with the arson of a teacher’s apartment. At Bawku Senior High School, four students were arrested for rioting, assault on school staff, and the destruction of school and private property.”

To prevent further unrest, the Police administration called for collaborative oversight among stakeholders, concluding, “The Ghana Police Service urges students, parents, guardians, and school authorities to work together to promote a culture of discipline, respect, and peace.”
