Former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawunia has issued a heartfelt appeal for national solidarity and strict compliance with safety directives as devastating floods displace thousands of citizens across the country.

In a statement released on Monday morning, Dr Bawunia offered his condolences to families hit hardest by the deluge, which has caused widespread destruction to property and forced many from their homes.

Kumasi, Western region to experience torrential rains as GMet warns of more floods

“This morning, my thoughts and prayers are with the thousands of our people affected by the floods,” the former Vice President said. “My deepest sympathies to those who have lost their loved ones, properties, and those who have been forced out of their homes.”

As emergency containment measures get underway, Dr Bawunia pressed the public to heed official guidance to prevent further casualties.

He emphasised the necessity of seamless cooperation between communities and state rescue teams during the ongoing crisis.

“I urge citizens to comply with all directives issued by the Government and to cooperate fully with institutions mandated to address the situation,” he stated.

Turning his attention to the logistical response, the former Vice President called on frontline responders to expedite rescue and relief operations, ensuring that isolated or vulnerable victims receive immediate support.

“I also urge the emergency services and all relevant authorities to do everything possible to reach those in need and assist them,” Dr Bawunia added.

Expressing confidence in the country’s resilience, he concluded with a call for communal support: “We will get through this difficult time by caring for one another. May God bless our homeland Ghana.”
