A high court has pushed back its judgment in the state’s case against the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, and two others over alleged illegal mining at Samreboi.
The court rescheduled the judgment to July 20, 2026, at 9:00 AM after granting the defense team an extension of time to file their written addresses.
Defense counsel now has until July 13, 2026, to submit the final written addresses to the court.
The decision followed deliberations and arguments presented by both the prosecution and counsel for the accused during Monday’s court session.
The case, titled ‘Republic v. Bernard Antwi Boasiako & 2 Others’, continues to draw significant public interest due to the prominent political status of the primary accused and the ongoing national crackdown on illegal mining.
