The Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations has ordered the immediate reversal of a directive suspending employment contracts at the Ghana Digital Centres Limited (GDCL).
The dispute arose following a GDCL circular which announced it was “temporarily suspending employment contracts of all staff of the centre pending comprehensive assessment.” The suspension was scheduled to take effect immediately.
However, the Ministry has vehemently rejected the move, instructing management to rescind the decision and advising workers to ignore the directive entirely.
Officials expressed strong disapproval of the timing, noting that many employees are currently dealing with the fallout from recent severe weather.
”At a time when staff have been personally affected by the June 29th floods, the Ministry stands with its staff and the staff of all our Agencies,” the Ministry’s public relations unit stated.
The sector Minister, Sam George, visited the facility shortly after the flooding to assess the physical and operational damage inflicted on the centre and the various businesses operating within its premises.
Management has now been summoned to a meeting at the Ministry to address the situation and resolve the standoff.
