Beware of politicians’ empty promises – Ga Mankralo cautions chiefs

The Mankralo of Ga State and Sempe Mantse, Nii Adotey Otintor, has issued a strong admonition to traditional rulers and chiefs across the country to exercise extreme caution when dealing with politicians.

According to the Sempe Mantse, political figures are notorious for approaching traditional leaders with enticing promises during election campaigns, only to completely ignore them once they secure power. Speaking in an interview, Nii Otintor expressed concern over how easily politicians sideline local communities after elections.

“Too often, politicians make grand commitments during elections, only to abandon those promises after assuming office.”

Expressing deep affection for his people and the advancement of the Ga-Dangme community, the prominent traditional ruler urged his peers to remain firm, resolute and wise when negotiating for development in their respective jurisdictions. He stressed that the downfall of any society rests on the failure of its leadership rather than the citizens.

“For it is a weak or selfish chief that causes societies to crumble, not the people themselves.”

Nii Sempe further advised chiefs to look beyond eloquent campaign rhetoric and instead evaluate political actors based on their past achievements, transparency and integrity.

“A true politician is measured by integrity, by the fulfilment of promises, and by tangible results, not empty rhetoric.”

“Chiefs should demand performance, transparency, and a genuine commitment to the welfare of the people before endorsing anyone for public office.”

Shifting his focus to development within Accra, the traditional leader called on the government to prioritise crucial local projects, specifically demanding immediate intervention for Sempe School, Salaga Market and other historical landmarks in Ga Mashie.

He strongly advocated for the revitalisation of neglected academic institutions across the country, urging the state to restore facilities that have been abandoned by successive administrations.
