Strong winds ripped off roofs, flattened walls, and damaged over 40 homes, marking one of the area’s worst recent weather disasters.

The storm destroyed household items, food stocks, and farm produce, forcing displaced families to seek shelter with relatives and friends.

Meindogu, a Yendi suburb, was among the worst affected areas, leaving residents scrambling to salvage their remaining possessions.

Tragedy struck when 12-year-old Asana was trapped beneath falling debris as her family’s home collapsed.

Her mother, Awabu Abukari, recalled that the family was asleep when powerful gusts tore off the roof before the walls caved in. The young girl has since been buried in line with Islamic customs.

Another resident, Abukari Abu, suffered neck injuries whilst attempting to rescue his children from their crumbling home.

Officials from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) have visited the affected communities to evaluate the destruction.

Preliminary reports confirm extensive damage to property. NADMO has appealed to residents with spare capacity to host displaced neighbours whilst full assessments continue and relief materials are assembled for distribution.
