The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has initiated a preliminary assessment into allegations of extortion and related misconduct brought against the Minority Leader of Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin.
According to a public notice issued by the anti-graft agency, the investigation follows public accusations made by the Chief Executive of the Ghana Gold Board, Sammy Gyamfi. The OSP confirmed receiving formal complaints regarding the matter, including a joint petition signed by two individuals alongside two separate petitions submitted by other interested parties.
In the official statement, the OSP outlined its next operational steps regarding the case, noting that it will carefully evaluate the filings to determine the appropriate legal procedure.
“Given the nature of the allegations, the OSP will assess the case and determine whether it falls within its statutory mandate and whether further investigative action is warranted,” the statement read.
The OSP’s assessment will establish if the complaints present sufficient legal grounds to launch a full-scale criminal investigation into the Minority Leader.
