The Member of Parliament for Jomoro, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, in collaboration with the Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA), has commenced the second phase of a skills training programme aimed at equipping young people and women in the constituency with practical tools to enhance their livelihoods and create sustainable sources of income.
The three-day initiative, which ran from Monday, August 24, 2026, to Wednesday, August 26, 2026, took place in Half Assini, the municipal capital of the Jomoro Municipality, with a total of 150 beneficiaries in attendance.
Designed to provide practical knowledge that can be directly applied beyond the classroom, the training focused on four key areas: fruit juice processing, beads making, livestock farming, and fish farming.
While the juice processing and bead-making modules offered instruction in value addition and creative enterprise, the livestock and fish farming components focused on strengthening agricultural production capacity.
These specific fields were selected to help participants turn practical entrepreneurial and agricultural skills into viable, income-generating businesses.
Highlighting the importance of the initiative, Godwin Alluekeh, Personal Assistant to Madam Affo-Toffey and coordinator of the programme, stated: “empowering young people and women with employable and entrepreneurial skills is critical to addressing unemployment and improving household incomes within the municipality.”
The initiative encourages beneficiaries to utilize local resources to establish small enterprises rather than relying solely on limited formal employment opportunities. By building on the ongoing partnership between the Jomoro MP and the Ghana Enterprises Agency to drive local economic empowerment, the training gives participants a foundation for self-employment and future business expansion.
As the practical sessions draw to a close, the organizers hope that beneficiaries will apply their newly acquired skills within their respective communities, generating further employment opportunities for others and contributing directly to the broader socio-economic development of the Jomoro Municipality.
