I’ve lost many friends because of this job, but I must increase our numbers from 87 to at least 150 – Afenyo-Markin tells Ayariga

The Minority Leader in Parliament, Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has disclosed that his assertive stance in the House is motivated by a firm political strategy to significantly boost the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Minority’s seats in the upcoming general election.

Addressing the House at the close of the vetting session for the Minister-designate for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Hon. Mahama Ayariga, on Thursday, August 27, the Effutu lawmaker shed light on why his position necessitates a firm approach.

While expressing mutual respect for Ayariga and promising his support, Afenyo-Markin pointed out that his parliamentary duties require rigorous scrutiny.

“Will be there to support you but you know my job. I’ve lost a lot of friends because of this job but I know that God will be by my side. So when my questions are coming, get ready,” he said.

He stressed that settling for the current Minority strength of 87 members is simply not an option for his leadership.

“I cannot afford to continue with this eighty-seven. Definitely I must also make it one fifty in the minimum. In the minimum one fifty in the next election. So I have to do my job,” Afenyo-Markin stated.

The Minority Leader subsequently extended his best wishes to the minister-designate as he concluded his remarks.
