The Deputy Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Asokwa, Hon. Patricia Appiagyei, has forcefully denied authoring a circulating memorandum alleging she received and returned GH₵70,000 in connection with the vetting of ministerial and Supreme Court nominees.
In an official statement issued on Friday, 4th September 2026, the lawmaker described the document as entirely fabricated and urged the public to disregard it completely. She clarified that she neither wrote, authorised, nor circulated the memo addressed to Minority Chief Whip Hon. Frank Annoh-Dompreh.
Addressing the monetary allegations, Hon. Appiagyei stated expressly and without qualification that she did not receive any payment of GH₵70,000, or any other sum, from any person in connection with the vetting of ministerial or Supreme Court nominees, or in connection with her duties as a member of the Appointments Committee. She noted that as she received no such payment, she had no occasion to return any such funds, contrary to what the fake document suggests, adding that she has at all times discharged her duties on the committee with integrity.
Explaining her delayed public response, the Asokwa MP stated that she was attending a close friend’s funeral when news of the document first surfaced. She explained that when her attention was initially drawn to the fake news originating from her office, she assumed that the fake stamp she authorised to be placed on the document was sufficient, until the matter assumed full prominence in the media space.
Hon. Appiagyei stressed that the fabricated document falsely attributed to her remains a serious matter. She indicated that she is taking legal advice on appropriate next steps once the source is established, reserving all her rights, including taking legal action against any person found responsible for the fabrication or knowing circulation of the document.
The Deputy Minority Leader concluded by attributing the incident to faceless individuals attempting to sow seeds of discord within the minority caucus, assuring the rank and file of the New Patriotic Party and all Ghanaians that the caucus stands united behind flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia ahead of the 2028 elections.
