Godfred Dame remains resolute, firm, and healthy; he will not resign over a doctored tape – Deputy A-G

The Deputy Attorney-General, Alfred Tuah-Yeboah, has jumped to the defence of Attorney General and Minister of Justice Godfred Yeboah Dame over calls for him to resign or be sacked.

He raised concerns over the authenticity of the audio tape released by the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

On Monday, the NDC asked President Akufo-Addo to sack the Godfred Dame after accusing him of fabrication of evidence and manipulation of the Judiciary in the ongoing ambulance trial of Minority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson.

The party also called for the prosecutor of the minister and served notice that a new NDC government would prosecute him should the current administration fail to do so.

They further called on the General Legal Council to initiate disciplinary proceedings against Godfred Yeboah Dame since, in their view, he was supposed to be at the bar.

But the Deputy Attorney-General, Alfred Tuah-Yeboah, noted that after carefully listening to the audio, he did not hear anything untoward or damming as claimed by the NDC.

“There is no doubt that the Attorney-General had a conversation with the third accused, as you’ve heard from our spokesperson. Very true. Circumstances led to that kind of conversation, and we think nothing untoward was said.”
He said this on the sidelines of the launch of Amnesty International’s Human Rights and Death Penalty Report 2023.

He stressed that the Attorney-General remains resolute and will return to continue his job when he returns to Ghana from his travels.

“It is not confirmed whether what we have is authentic audio. That’s the first thing. The second thing is that the Attorney-General is very resolute, very firm, very healthy, and is undertaking his duties as Attorney General. He is currently out of  jurisdiction and very soon he will be back to continue his duties as Attorney General,” he said.

“There is no doubt that the Attorney General had a conversation with the third accused, as you’ve heard from our spokesperson. Very true. Circumstances led to that kind of conversation, and we think nothing untoward was said.”
“We’re in court, and cases of this nature are fought in court. We have closed our case in that matter.

“The audios, if there are any, have nothing to do with what we are doing in court. And the judge made it known that what we are doing in court is different from what we are doing in the public space, that is, politics. Our focus is to do what we’re doing in court for us to get to the end of this matter,” he said.
