Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, the minister-designate for the interior, says the police officer’s gun salute after he was nominated was unprofessional and inappropriate.
The nominee and Asawase Member of Parliament (MP) stated that he had to request that the officer apologise to Ghanaians because what occurred was unethical.
He made the remarks while appearing before Parliament’s Vetting Committee on Friday, January 24, 2025.
A video of a uniformed policeman firing his gun into the air, in apparent celebration of the nomination of Asawase MP, Muntaka Mubarak, as the Minister for the Interior, went viral with several individuals condemning it.
The officer and some other officers in jubilation of the nomination celebrated the nominee.
The nominee made the remarks after Abetifi MP Bryan Acheampong raised the issue, saying that, on a lighter note, the nominee is supposed to be in the position of attention during a gun salute, which elicited laughter from the audience.
But reacting to this, the nominee described it as bad and has since instructed the officer to apologise, which he has done.
“I was vehemently against that shooting in my house, which is why I came out and have since made the officer apologise because I didn’t think that was right,” he stated.
