The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has reiterated that he see to it that the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, popularly known as the Anti-LGBTQ Bill, is passed into law in 2025.
The Speaker made the pledge while addressing traditional leaders and supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on January 26, 2025.

According to him, he was prepared to see to the passage of the bill even if it cost him his life, saying, “I can lose my life for this cause.”
He has therefore served notice of seeking guidance from the Minister for Justice and Attorney General on advancing the bill.
“The LGBTQ bill was passed by Parliament, but the former president refused to assent to it, which was unconstitutional. Parliament is the authority for passing laws, not the president. That decision was wrong, and all of you punished him for that,” Bagbin remarked, referencing the actions of the previous administration.
“I am going to write to the new Attorney General and Minister for Justice for his comments so we can resend it to the new president for assent. This will not take time it will be passed this year. It is ungodly, and nobody should joke with me on this. I can lose my life for this cause.”
He was optimistic that the President will assent to the bill if it is passed by Parliament.
“This will not take time. It will be passed this year. It is ungodly, and nobody should joke with me on this,” Bagbin said.
The eight parliament passed the bill but the former President, Akufo-Addo did not assent it into citing court cases that were filed against the bill.
