Free SHS: NPP and its surrogates owe Mahama an apology – Dr Apaak

The Deputy Minister for Education, Dr Clement Abas Apaak, has asked the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to apologise to President John Dramani Mahama over their Free Senior High Schools (SHS) comments ahead of the 2024 election.

He stated that the party and its communicators peddled falsehoods about President John Dramani Mahama in connection with the free Senior High School policy.

Dr Apaak, who represents the Builsa South constituency, said the NPP lied that the president would cancel the policy, but it has turned out that Mr Mahama has rather made the highest allocation for the policy.

Speaking in Parliament on Monday, the deputy minister stated that President Mahama has allocated a whopping 3.5 billion Ghana cedis to the Free SHS policy.

To him, the president has, through the allocation, demonstrated his commitment to improving the Free SHS policy better than “those who claim to be originators of the policy”.

“Mr Speaker, before the 2024 elections, one of the catchphrases that our opponents were known for was that John Dramani Mahama and the NDC were going to cancel Free Senior High School. Mr Speaker, today is March 24th, and I want to ask them, has Free Senior High been cancelled?

“In fact, John Draman Mahama has done what is so unique and commendable; while he has said that he was going to improve and make the policy sustainable, he also pledged to find a dedicated source of funding to ensure that the policy gives us the best returns,” Dr. Apaak stated.

He added: “Consequently, for this year’s budget, a whopping, gargantuan, colossal, magnificent 3.5 billion Ghana cedis has been allocated to finance the policy. Those who claim to be originators of the policy, the best they could do was 2.7 billion Ghana cedis. So for a man who was accused of plotting to cancel a policy to have demonstrated his love and his commitment and pledge he made to Ghanaians, I believe the NPP and its surrogates owe him an apology,” he said.
