Mrs Pearl Adusu Sateckla, the National Road Safety Authority’s (NRSA) PRO, has asked drivers to be disciplined on our roads in order to reduce road crashes this Easter.

She indicated that road accidents were still occurring across the country and the only way to stop it is to maintain discipline.

Speaking on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, she admonished drivers to avoid reckless driving, overspeeding and needless overtaking on the roads.

“It is important that drivers maintain discipline and adhere to safety protocols. These things are crucial for preventing accidents on our roads. As we celebrate Easter, drivers will see this as an opportunity to make more money, and so they usually maintain discipline while driving. We are therefore appealing to them to adhere to the traffic regulations.

They should avoid speeding, needless overtaking, drunk driving and other reckless road activities. This is not the period to engage in these activities. Those who are also taking in other forms of drugs should stop. Take a rest when tired, and don’t sit behind the wheels since that could cause an accident. We further want them to ensure proper vehicle maintenance and promote a culture of safety awareness and preparedness.”

She revealed that the NRSA, in collaboration with the Ghana Police Service, has rolled out a road safety campaign and is ensuring discipline on the roads.

Mrs Pearl Adusu Sateckla added that in situations where drivers ought to be customised, they do so, and when necessary, they would be arrested and the appropriate sanctions enforced.
