Deputy Attorney General Justice Srem-Sai has indicated that the primary goal in the ongoing corruption cases against former appointees is to recover the misappropriated funds.
According to him, if these individuals voluntarily return the money, it will be accepted.
Justice Srem-Sai made these remarks while reacting to the GH¢15 million bail granted to former GIIF CEO Solomon Asamoah, who was required to provide two sureties.
Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi, also charged, was absent due to undergoing surgery.

He lamented that the country had lost so much money through the decisions of public officials who are either civil or political appointees.
“The primary objective of Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) is to recover the money. We are open, and we cannot be tired of anyone or any of the accused persons or suspects in the other cases who think that they have the money and could return the money. We would be happy to have these monies to be used to solve some of the problems we have in this country.
He emphasised that the president remains committed to solving the health, sanitation and other problems of the country, and so if the accused persons have the monies they have been accused of misappropriating, they should return them.
He said the law allows for pre-bargaining, and so, based on some conditions, they could vary some of the cases put before the court or vary the consequence of the crimes being alleged in court.
He disclosed that some of the accused persons have approached the Attorney General’s office to propose returning some monies and also agreed to be witnesses for the state.
I think we are on track when it comes to the recovery. There is no better way of recovering the money than voluntary recovery. If the people are willing to return the money, we will take it, but that is not to say you will keep the money, serve a jail term and go for it because the Attorney General has instituted an active process of tracing these monies. So I will say that whether you do it voluntarily or not, we will do whatever it takes in the name of the Republic of Ghana to retrieve every pesewa that we can from private hands and restore those monies to the people of Ghana and to the taxpayer of this country.”
