As Ghana joins Muslims worldwide to commemorate Eid al-Fitr, Member of Parliament for Ayawaso East, Alhaji Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed, has urged citizens to embody the festival’s values of love, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence.
Speaking in Parliament, the MP highlighted the significance of Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of the 30-day fasting period. He emphasized that the celebration is not just for Muslims, but an opportunity for all Ghanaians to come together, appreciate each other, and live in peace.
“The essence of this festival is to bring families and friends together, ensuring every member of the community, Muslim or not, is happy, well-catered for, and shown love,” Ahmed said.
He quoted the Prophet Muhammad, saying, “None of you is a true believer of Islam unless you desire for your brother or sister what you desire for yourself.”
The MP invited all Ghanaians to witness the Kashi Kashika procession in Nema, showcasing cultural displays and traditional dances. He emphasised that Eid al-Fitr promotes peaceful coexistence, tolerance, and national development.
Ahmed prayed for Ghana’s continued peace and blessings, wishing all citizens a happy Eid al-Fitr and a blessed New Year.
Alhaji Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed has emphasised that being Ghanaian is about meeting constitutional criteria, not tribe or religion. Speaking in Parliament, Ahmed stressed the importance of tolerance, patriotism, and law-abiding citizenship.
“Let all Ghanaians know that it is not the tribe of a person or his religion, creed or name that makes him a Ghanaian, but it is the laws of Ghana that make a person a Ghanaian,” he said.
Ahmed urged Muslims to be generous and peaceful and to serve Ghana with all their hearts. He emphasised peaceful coexistence with people of other faiths, quoting the Prophet Muhammad’s teachings.
