Two young men have been brought before court for their involvement in an early-morning robbery and assault in Ashaiman on June 13, 2026.

The suspects targeted 29-year-old trader Annette Bless Mantebea near the Ashaiman Pesewa Plaza around 2:00 a.m.

According to the Ghana Police Service, 18-year-old Mohammed Saad assaulted Mantebea and snatched her handbag, which contained GH¢300.

Although the victim successfully retrieved her bag during a struggle, Saad managed to steal her GH¢1,000 Tecno Pop 8 mobile phone before attempting to flee.

The police revealed that the second suspect, 19-year-old Aaron Tetteh, was waiting nearby on a black Royal Eagle motorbike (registration M-25-GT 1028) to facilitate their escape. While Tetteh successfully sped away from the scene, bystanders intervened and helped apprehend Saad.

The complainant sustained several injuries, including damage to her front teeth, and later received treatment at the Ashaiman Municipal Hospital. A police medical report has since confirmed the assault.

On June 15, 2026, Saad’s father brought Tetteh to the police station, where investigators identified and arrested him as the accomplice.

During questioning, Tetteh led officers to the residence of the motorbike’s owner, but neither the owner nor the vehicle was located.

Both accused persons have provided caution statements admitting their involvement in the crime. Police have retained the retrieved handbag and mobile phone as exhibits, and both men now face prosecution for robbery-related offences.
