The Member of Parliament for Gushegu, Hassan Tampuli, has appealed to the government to rename the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) after the late Overlord of Dagbon, His Royal Majesty Ya-Na Abukari Mahama II, to immortalise his memory and legacy.
Addressing Parliament, Mr Tampuli highlighted that the late traditional ruler, who passed away on 11 July 2026, served the Dagbon Kingdom for seven years with distinction, making an impact that felt as though he had reigned for four decades.
“Mister Speaker, in memory of the second, we name the teaching hospital TTH after him. To remind future generations what the Ya-Na did for us, we need to do something like this for him, we need to pay compliments,” he stated.
Alongside his proposal for renaming the regional health facility, the lawmaker outlined three vital national priorities required to preserve the late king’s enduring legacy.
These obligations, he noted, include the completion of the Gbewaa Palace, finalizing the amendment and review of the 1930 Dagbon Constitution, and ensuring a peaceful, seamless transition to safeguard unity across the kingdom.
Mr Tampuli also praised former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for forming the Committee of Eminent Chiefs, whilst expressing gratitude to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and the King of the Gonja Kingdom for their instrumental roles in restoring lasting peace to Dagbon.
