Security expert Mr. Andrews Asiedu Tetteh has welcomed President Mahama’s decision to nominate Hon. Gilbert Kenneth Adjei as the new Minister for Defence, following a year of mourning for the late Defence Minister, Hon. Edward Omane Boamah.

Speaking on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Mr. Tetteh commended the President for honoring the late minister’s memory for a full year before naming a successor. He described the nominee as an ideal fit for the post, highlighting Mr. Adjei’s prior experience as Deputy Minister in the sector and his deep understanding of the country’s security affairs.

Comparing the nominee to other options, such as the Member of Parliament for Klottey Korle, Mr. Tetteh emphasized that Mr. Adjei’s familiarity with the ministry makes him uniquely suited for the role.

“The new nominee is not a new person at the Defence Ministry. He was once a Deputy at the Ministry. He has the criteria for the job. For a year, the President has honoured the memory of the late Minister and we commend him for that. I feel he is the right person for the job. Comparing him with Zanetor, I think Gilbert is a perfect candidate because he had been at the Ministry before. I believe it should be the right appointment for this gentleman. We should give him the chance.”

While wishing Mr. Adjei well, Mr. Tetteh also outlined his key expectations for the Defence Minister-designate upon parliamentary approval and assumption of duty.

“The Defence Ministry is more about territorial integrity of the country. He should therefore strengthen our regional ties especially those within our borderlines. He should be proactive. He should also deal with the Bawku conflict once and for all. He should collaborate with the Inspector General of Police and the other security heads in dealing with the matter. Ghanaians are expecting a lot from him and so he has no reason to fail us. A lot depends on him and so he should go to work and not waste time. The replacement for the late Omane Boamah took time and his replacement is in order and so he should not disappoint the people.”
