Sack Interior, Health, and Other Underperforming Ministers” – Analyst to Mahama

August 10, 2026
Samuel Boateng

Political analyst Samuel Boateng has urged President John Dramani Mahama to intensify his cabinet reshuffle by removing underperforming ministers rather than simply reassigning them.

His comments followed a government shake-up announced in an official press release on Friday, 7 August 2026, by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications.

Issued in accordance with Article 78(1) of the 1992 Constitution, the nominations have been officially submitted to Parliament through the Speaker for vetting and approval.

Under the new nominations, Korle Klottey MP Dr Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings has been tipped to head the Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology, while Bawku Central MP Mahama Ayariga has been nominated to lead the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs. Additionally, two serving ministers have been reassigned: Hon. Kenneth Gilbert Adjei takes charge of the Ministry of Defence, while Banda MP Ahmed Ibrahim moves to the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources.

Describing these adjustments as minor, Boateng asserted that the Ghanaian public expects a far more comprehensive overhaul.

Speaking on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM’s Frontline with host Kwabena Agyapong he specifically singled out Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh and Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak as officials who should be dismissed rather than given new portfolios.

Boateng remarked: “We expect that President John Dramani Mahama will make significant changes to his government. There are some of them who should also be reassigned to positions where they can perform better. Some are politically handicapped and must be reassigned. There are others who have performed poorly and should be sacked from their positions without any reassignment. There are some of them who have messed up and must be shown the exit. Off the top of my head, I think the Health Minister must be shown the way out. He has failed. He is overwhelmed with the work. He could have performed better as Deputy Health Minister.”

When asked by the host whether the Interior Minister should also be removed, Boateng answered in the affirmative, noting that he has likewise failed to perform to the best of his ability.
