Hon. George Dadzie Junior, Deputy National Coordinator for the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme (RCOMSDEP), says government under President John Dramani Mahama is ready to make the country better through proper and responsible mining.
Speaking on the Rainbow Radio Weekend Morning Show on Saturday August 22, 2026, Hon. Dadzie disclosed that following the successful launch of the RCOMSDEP programme in August last year, his team has visited all 13 mining regions across the country.
According to him, the tour was to engage stakeholders, including small-scale miners, traditional leaders, youth groups, and local authorities, on the new direction of government’s mining policy which emphasizes responsibility, sustainability, and skills development.0
“After the successful launch in August last year, we have been to all the 13 mining regions in the country. We have listened to the people, we have seen the realities on the ground, and we are convinced that with the right approach, mining can be a blessing rather than a curse,” he stated.
Hon. Dadzie Junior explained that the Mahama-led administration is determined to reform the mining sector to ensure it benefits Ghanaians, especially communities in mining areas, while protecting the environment and water bodies.
He noted that RCOMSDEP is designed to promote cooperative mining, provide training and skills development for young people in mining communities, and create decent jobs through responsible practices.
On the current challenges in mining communities, Hon. Dadzie admitted that people living in mining areas are indeed suffering.
“It is true those in mining areas are suffering, but some are suffering more,” he lamented, adding that years of illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, and lack of proper regulation have worsened poverty, environmental degradation, and unemployment in some areas.
He assured Ghanaians that government will not turn a blind eye to the plight of mining communities, stressing that the RCOMSDEP initiative will bridge the gap by ensuring miners are properly organized, trained, and supported to mine responsibly.
Hon. Dadzie Junior called on all stakeholders to support the programme, noting that responsible mining is key to national development, environmental protection, and job creation for the youth.
