The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued an urgent advisory to members of the Tijjaniya Muslim Movement of Ghana who are planning to travel to Senegal for the annual commemoration of the birthday of Prophet Mohammed.
While reassuring the public that Senegal remains generally safe for visitors, the ministry highlighted growing security risks along several major road corridors leading into Dakar. Pilgrims embarking on long-distance overland journeys have been cautioned to re-evaluate their arrangements in light of these emerging threats.
“Prospective travellers are strongly advised to consider travel by air as the most preferred, safe and secure means of transportation,” the statement said. “Those who may already be making arrangements to travel by road are hereby urged to reconsider such plans and opt for air travel.”
The ministry urged both the leadership of the movement and individual pilgrims to prioritize personal safety above convenience during this year’s pilgrimage. It also reaffirmed its commitment to monitoring security developments alongside international partners to safeguard Ghanaian citizens abroad.
