Officers from the Bono Regional Police Command have arrested a 36-year-old man, Gyamfi Christian, for his alleged involvement in a fake gold syndicate operating within the Berekum Municipality.

The arrest followed a formal complaint lodged by Christopher Awuni, a 29-year-old gold aggregator.

According to the police, Awuni reported that a four-member group posing as gold dealers defrauded him of GH¢1.1 million in July 2026 after selling him 110 troy ounces of fake gold, which has since been retained as an exhibit.

Intelligence-led operations led to Christian’s capture on 17th August 2026 at a hideout in Wamfie, located in the Dormaa East District.

During interrogation, the suspect confessed to his role in the deal and disclosed that the transaction occurred at Drobo in the Jaman South Municipality.

Christian further named three accomplices currently at large: Isaac Antwi, Balthazar, and Abraham, alias Frenchman, who is believed to lead the syndicate. Preliminary investigations indicate that the same group previously defrauded another individual of GH¢1.4 million in Drobo earlier this year.

The suspect remains in police custody assisting with ongoing investigations, while police intensify efforts to track down and arrest the fleeing accomplices.

In a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer for the Bono Regional Police Command, Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, the police urged members of the public to exercise extreme caution when conducting gold transactions and to report any suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies immediately.
