Officers from the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Special Operations Team have arrested seven suspects across the Ashanti Region during a series of intelligence-led raids targeting illegal drug networks.

The targeted operations took place on Thursday, 20th August 2026, across Ejisu, Abrepo Junction, and Atimatim, aiming to dismantle local networks involved in the possession, control, and distribution of illicit substances.

In Ejisu, officers apprehended 43-year-old Nana Kwadwo Adu and 48-year-old Nana Kwame Fella. Meanwhile, a simultaneous raid at Abrepo Junction led to the arrests of Stephanie Anokye, 23; Roland Anokye, 20; Gideon Owusu, 30; and Grace Fosua, 27. The team also raided Atimatim, tracking down 27-year-old Kofi Opoku, a key suspect believed to be involved in drug peddling who had previously evaded law enforcement.

During the raids, police seized pill pouches packed with dried leaves suspected to be narcotics, alongside quantities of Tramaking 225mg and 250mg, Royal 255mg, and Rophynol 100mg. Officers also recovered 860 unregistered Tramadol tablets and capsules, together with an undisclosed sum of Ghanaian currency.

All seven suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue into the supply chains and wider syndicates involved.

“The ongoing investigations are intended, among other things, to establish the source of the substances, determine the full extent of the suspects’ involvement, and identify any other persons who may be connected to the suspected activities,” confirmed Superintendent Godwin Ahianyo, Head of the Ashanti Regional Police Public Affairs Unit.

“The Command urges members of the public to continue providing credible information to the Police to support efforts to maintain public safety and security,” Superintendent Ahianyo added, assuring that further updates will be released as the investigation progresses.
