Two people have lost their lives, while six others sustained severe injuries following a horrific multi-vehicle accident at Dr. Marbel Junction on the Accra–Kumasi Highway on Tuesday morning.
The tragic crash involved a DAF truck with registration number BF 1722E6, a Volkswagen Sprinter bus with registration number ER 195-24, and an commercial tricycle with registration number M-25-AS-8071.
Firefighters from the Suhum Municipal Fire Station rushed to the scene following a distress call, launching a rescue operation to free one of the victims who was trapped underneath the DAF truck. Emergency personnel safely extracted the victim before conveying the casualty alongside other injured persons to the Suhum Government Hospital for urgent medical treatment.
Preliminary investigations conducted by authorities reveal that the driver of the DAF truck suffered a brake failure while in transit. The truck consequently lost control and rammed violently into the Sprinter bus, which in turn crashed into the parked tricycle on the side of the road.
The impact of the collision left the tricycle completely wrecked, whilst both the DAF truck and the Sprinter bus suffered significant damage.
Reacting to the incident, the Ghana National Fire Service cautioned motorists to prioritise regular vehicle maintenance, particularly brake checks, and urged drivers to exercise utmost caution on major highways to avert avoidable crashes.
