The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) have announced that the massive clearing works on the major expressway project are nearing completion, with only six kilometres left to clear out of the total 176-kilometre stretch.

The elite Engineers Corps of the GAF have been battling through rough terrain, dense vegetation, and challenging environmental conditions to clear the right of way for the road construction.

In a update shared on their official X (formerly Twitter) platform, military authorities disclosed that the engineering unit has displayed grit, discipline, and high-level precision throughout the operations to ensure the project stays on course.

According to the military command, the intensive operation—dubbed ‘The Race to Sawua’—is entering its final phase as personnel move closer to the finish line.

The clearance phase forms a critical part of the government’s infrastructure expansion efforts aimed at improving road connectivity, reducing travel times, and boosting economic activities along the corridor.

The GAF noted that despite facing difficult geographical conditions along the 176km route, the military engineers remained resolute in delivering on their mandate to serve the nation.

“The finish line is in sight. Out of 176 kilometres of challenging terrain, just 6 km remain! The elite Ghana Armed Forces Engineers have pushed through with absolute grit,” the military stated in their post.

Work on the final six-kilometre stretch is currently ongoing, with military engineers working round the clock to fully clear the path for the next phase of construction.
