Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings has officially assumed office as the Minister for Environment, Science and Technology following a formal handing-over ceremony in Accra.
She takes over from the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, who had been serving in an acting capacity.
Speaking shortly after the transition, Dr Agyeman-Rawlings issued an urgent call for collective action, discipline and transparency to tackle the country’s growing environmental challenges.
She emphasised that safeguarding natural resources must be treated as a shared national obligation, with the state leading efforts to drive sustainable reform and contribute to international climate initiatives.
Collaboration remains central to her mandate, with the new minister urging partners, sector experts and local communities to pool their expertise. She noted that achieving lasting progress against environmental degradation requires sustained commitment across every level of society.
Addressing public sector governance, Dr Agyeman-Rawlings underscored the necessity of strict accountability in managing state resources.
She pledged that taxpayer funds allocated to the ministry would be used strictly in the public interest, stressing that discipline and integrity must anchor every government action under her leadership.
