The high-profile event was attended by key government dignitaries and security chiefs, including the Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, and the Director-General of Prisons, Mrs. Patience Baffoe-Bonnie, alongside other senior officials.

Addressing the gathering, Professor Opoku-Agyemang reaffirmed the government’s steadfast commitment to transforming the country’s penal system by improving prison conditions and strengthening rehabilitation structures across all correctional facilities.

She highlighted several key achievements and ongoing initiatives, including the upward revision of inmate feeding allowances, the successful completion of the modern Nsawam remand prison, and the recent commissioning of a 300-capacity prison facility in Damongo.

The Vice President further emphasized ongoing legislative and policy interventions aimed at decongesting correctional centres, making specific mention of reforms implemented under the landmark Community Service Act, 2026 (Act 1175), as well as the newly introduced Prisons Service (Parole) Regulations, 2026.

Charging the newly commissioned officers to act as exemplary ambassadors of the service, Professor Opoku-Agyemang urged them to uphold high standards of discipline, fairness, and professional integrity while ensuring utmost respect for the human dignity of all persons placed in their custody.
