The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP), operating through the Ghana National Household Registry (GNHR), has officially constituted and sworn in members of a newly established Data Review Committee aimed at elevating the quality and reliability of its national analytical outputs.
The move comes at a crucial period, with the Registry now housing comprehensive data covering approximately three million enrolled households across all sixteen regions of Ghana.
The newly inaugurated body will function as a formal peer-review mechanism tasked with reviewing, validating, and endorsing analytical reports before their public dissemination. By establishing this formal framework, the Ministry seeks to ensure that statistics released to development partners, government agencies, and the general public remain thoroughly vetted, accurate, and methodologically sound.
Speaking during the inauguration ceremony, the Chief Director of the Ministry, Dr Marian W. A. Kpakpah, underscored the vital role the committee will play in guiding national policy. She noted that robust quality assurance is essential for sustaining credible, evidence-based decision-making within the country’s social protection sector. Dr Kpakpah further charged the newly appointed members to bring their collective expertise to bear in safeguarding data integrity.
Expanding on the operational necessity of the panel, the Head of the GNHR, Dr Richard Adjetey, explained that the sheer volume of analytical outputs generated by the Registry necessitated a structured, multi-tiered review process. He emphasized that establishing a dedicated body allows the Ministry to identify methodological gaps, eliminate analytical errors, and recommend swift corrective actions prior to publication.
Beyond routine validation, the committee is mandated to offer expert guidance on data-sharing protocols, analytical tools, and strategic capacity-building initiatives designed to enhance overall data usage across public institutions.
Following the swearing-in, Daniel Sackey of the GNHR presented the committee’s official Terms of Reference alongside a technical overview of the Registry’s current operations. The presentation detailed data collection methodologies, Proxy Means Test (PMT) indicators, statistical models, registry health metrics, and key data quality considerations, providing members with a clear foundational framework for their upcoming duties.
The meeting concluded with a commitment from committee members to foster close, continuous collaboration with the GNHR leadership. The panel is set to commence work immediately, providing technical oversight to guarantee that all forthcoming analytical releases meet strict national and international quality benchmarks.
