Hundreds of supporters of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) massed up in Accra on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, for a nationwide demonstration to demand the immediate dismissal of the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
The protest, dubbed “Y3gye Y3 Sika” (to wit “Our Money”), was organised to press for full public accountability following growing public outrage over controversies linked to the foreign ministry.
Demonstrators, largely led by the National Youth Wing of the NPP, converged as early as 6:00 a.m. near the Tetteh Quarshie Interchange opposite the Accra Mall. Clad in red and black alongside traditional party colours, the crowd held placards and chanted slogans demanding that President John Dramani Mahama relieve the foreign minister of his post to allow for an independent investigation.
The agitation centres on the contentious expenditure of GH¢49.7 million incurred during the recent evacuation of 1,964 Ghanaian nationals from South Africa, as well as separate allegations surrounding the issuance of diplomatic and service passports.
Protesters maintained that letting the minister step aside remains the only credible way to ensure an unhindered, objective audit into the ministry’s financial dealings. Party leaders present reiterated that the street action is a nationwide campaign intended to protect the public purse and force executive transparency.
Security personnel were deployed along key access points to monitor the protest and keep traffic moving along the principal routes in the capital. Leaders of the movement have indicated that further actions will follow across other regional capitals if the president fails to act on their demands.
