Ghana’s Covid-19 cases have increased sharply, with our active cases reaching almost 6,922.
Updates provided by the Ghana Health Service shows that a total of 545 persons have lost their lives since January 2021.
Per the data available, Ghana’s death toll has doubled moving from 335 at the end of 2020 to the current figure nearing 900.
Cumulatively, the country has since March 2020 recorded a total of 108,677 Coronavirus cases with 100,875 recoveries.
The GHS last week named the Volta, Bono, and Bono East regions as regions emerging as covid-19 hotspots in the country.
Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Patrick Kuma-Aboagye who gave an update on the country’s case count at a briefing stated that the Volta Region for instance, which had only 16 cases as of July 1, has more than 500 cases.
“There has been a very steep rise in the active cases in the last 2 weeks. We have increasing hospitalization and deaths, we’re having some emerging hotspots outside Accra and Kumasi. That is, now we have Volta having new cases, Bono and Bono East also seeing some cases. We also have workplace and school outbreaks taking place.”
