Workers at Tema-based Volta Aluminum Company (VALCO) are protesting the retirement of some top management personnel.
According to the workers, the company has about 28 retirees, nine of whom are in administration.
They argued that the retired workers must return home to make way for others to take over.
The workers noted that there are equally qualified individuals to take their place.
Among other things, the workers are protesting their poor working conditions.
According to the workers, while they operate locally, all of their business is done outside of the country, and all monetary transactions are done in dollars.
However, workers say they are struggling due to the presence of retirees in most managerial positions who do not care about the workers’ well-being.
The Local Union Chairman, Edgar Tetteh, told Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm that the workers are dissatisfied with the current situation.
He stated that they want authorities to address their concerns in order to maintain productivity.
”We have competent persons who can take over from the retirees. They should go home. They are due for retirement, but they have refused to retire. That is why the workers are agitated.”
