Police in Praso are looking for a man who reportedly poisoned his ten-day-old baby with weedicide.
The culprit has been identified as Godfred Nelson, a 19-year-old SHS 3 student from Assin Praso.
The suspect is claimed to have impregnated a 16-year-old girlfriend at Adanse Praso.
According to new information, the suspect and the youngster attempted but failed to abort the baby multiple times.
But, after exhausting all options for abortion, including drinking concoctions, the partner was forced to deliver.
The suspect is said to have given the baby a substance suspected to be weedicide.
He allegedly carried out the act while mother if the baby had stepped out.
He then fled the scene and has since been on the run.
The grandfather of the victim, Kwaku Arkoh speaking with explained that the mother of the child, Esther Baah met her baby crying uncontrollably when she returned from the bathhouse.
She then decided to breastfeed her but observed a foamy substance in the mouth of the baby and also found liquid stains in the child’s clothes.
The baby was subsequently rushed to the Hospital for medical care.
Meanwhile, the mother of the suspect, Afia Tawiah who was irritated and disappointed by the actions of her son charged the police to arrest him to face the full rigors of the law.
“I can’t understand why Paa Akwasi chose to kill this innocent baby because he wasn’t the one caring for the baby and his mother.” I’ve taken full responsibility, so why poison the child? He must be arrested as quickly as possible.”
The baby’s mother has also voiced her shock at the tragedy and has demanded justice.
