President Akufo-Addo has directed the Volta River Authority to decrease electricity exports to neighbouring countries, according to the Energy Committee Chairman, Samuel Atta Akyea.
The MP said the move was to help address the ongoing power outages, popularly known as ‘dumsor’.
He indicated that the president is on top of the issues and putting in place measures to address them.
He noted that the President has an acute sense of our challenges and the ones to address them.
“The President is on top of the issues, and I am even being educated that there is a command that our export of electricity to other countries should be curtailed. The President has an acute sense of the national need rather than making profits abroad, so that is a factor that would come and help,” he told Joy News in an interview.
A section of the Ghanaian public has called on the government to release a timetable for the ongoing load-shedding exercise.
However, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has maintained it was unnecessary.
It has since informed Ghanaians that all forms of outages were localised, and consumers who continue to experience outages should contact their local ECG offices.
