A four-month-old infant remains unaccounted for nearly two months after devastating torrential rainfall swept through seven regions on 29th June, the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mubarak Mohammed, has disclosed.
The infant stands as the sole victim officially listed as missing in the wake of the catastrophic disaster, which claimed 39 lives and wreaked havoc on 91,989 residents across 18,398 households in 77 districts.
Addressing journalists at the Government Accountability Series on Monday, 24th August, Mr Muntaka confirmed that emergency search and recovery operations had successfully accounted for all other victims of the deluge, leaving only the infant missing.
“A total of 91,989 persons from 18,398 households were victims of the disaster. One person remained missing, a four-month-old baby, and 39 deaths,” he said.
The Greater Accra Region bore the brunt of the destruction, registering the heaviest casualties and displacement with 17 fatalities and 56,022 affected individuals across 27 districts.
The Central Region emerged as the second hardest-hit area, reporting eight deaths and 21,882 affected residents across 16 districts.
In the Volta Region, four lives were lost, with 9,466 people across seven districts impacted by the rising waters.
Meanwhile, the Ashanti Region recorded 1,461 affected residents across 16 districts, while the Western North Region logged 937 affected individuals across six districts, with both regions reporting no flood-related fatalities.
The grim statistics highlight the sheer magnitude of the June disaster, which left a trail of severe displacement, widespread loss of life, and massive economic disruption across multiple communities.
