Yaw Buaben Asamoa, former National Communications Director for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), believes former President Agyekum Kufour’s endorsement of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, was based on his party devotion and loyalty.
To him, the endorsement may not be based on the vice president’s ability to become president, but rather on his (Kufour’s) loyalty to the NPP.
On February 7, 2024, former Ghanaian leader John Agyekum Kufuor described the choice of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party for the coming 2024 general elections as the best.
“This man is on a mission. A mission is determined by destiny. Let’s all support him to continue. Quality leadership is very scarce,” he stated.
“Ghana has come to a crossroads. It’s not the regular politics we want. We want leadership with vision, even in the complex world I spoke about.
“We should be talking about the nation and not so much about the party. We must get competent people to work with him to bring us out of the challenges we are in now,” he added.
In response to these comments, Mr. Buaben Asamoa stated that the Mr. Kufour served as president on the NPP’s ticket, therefore he had no choice but to back Bawumia because of his devotion, service, and dedication to the NPP.
He was asked what he thought of Mr. Kufour’s depiction of Dr. Bawumia as a man with destiny.
In his response, he said, “I agree with Chief Alan that he (Alan) is the best man and deserving to be president. I respect former President John Agyekum Kufour and the government he ran; he did so on the ticket of the NPP, and so he believes in all things; he must remain loyal to the NPP. He has the right to endorse Bawumia or say the things he said. However, the youth of Ghana are the ones who will decide whether Chief Alan or the man who is now known as Zakariah is deserving to be the next president.”.
The private legal practitioner who was speaking on Rainbow Radio 92.4FM appealed to Ghanaians abroad, particularly those in the United Kingdom, not to lose hope in the country.
He urged them to have an interest in the affairs of the country, no matter how terrible things were today.
He charged them to have an interest in a better Ghana by voting out both the NDC and NPP since they have all proven that they lack the capacity and competence to manage the country.
He claimed that both individuals had sent the same incompetent individuals to manage the country, and the results were the same.
He suggested that it was about time the Ghanaian voters considered an independent candidate in the person of Alan Kyerematen in the December 7 polls.
He asked them to spread the message about the need for Ghanaians abroad who are qualified to vote to vote massively for Alan Kyerematen.
