The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has urged on the General Legal Council and the Ghana Bar Association to, with immediate effect, commence disciplinary procedures against Godfred Yeboah Dame, the Attorney General and Minister of Justice.
The party made the announcement during a news conference on Tuesday, May 28, 2024.
The NDC is accusing Godfred Yeboah Dame of fabricating evidence in the ongoing ambulance trial of Minority Leader Dr. Cassie Ato Forson.
The NDC indicated last week that they will submit evidence to support the third accused individual in the trial, who alleged in open court that the Minister had repeatedly engaged him to indict Ato Forson.
The third accused in the ambulance case, Richard Jakpa, claimed in open court that Dame had approached him multiple times, seeking his assistance to implicate Dr. Ato Forson.
Although the Attorney General has denied the allegations, the NDC, addressing the press conference, demanded the immediate dismissal of Godfred Dame and his disbarment as a lawyer.
General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketiah opined that Mr. Dame is unfit to practice as a lawyer.
He said that the Attorney General committed malpractice and tarnished the reputation of his office and the legal profession.
Mr. Asiedu Nketiah noted that the NDC demands the commencement of disciplinary proceedings by the General Legal Council and his immediate disbarment as a lawyer for conduct unbecoming of a lawyer.
The former chief scribe of the NDC also requested televised parliamenatry proceedings into the alleged cases of judicial manipulation.
Clearly, Godfred Dame is unfit to serve as Attorney General and a lawyer.
He is unfit to be the leader of the General Legal Council, or Ghana Bar, for the multiple violations of the law.
