The presidential candidate of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, says with the appropriate policies, investment, and support, the creative arts industry could flourish, contributing significantly to Ghana’s economy.
He has so committed to implement initiatives that will aid in the exploration of the creative arts industry’s enormous potential for creating job opportunities for Ghana’s young.

He made the remarks when he engaged with a diverse group of creative industry players, including artists, musicians, filmmakers, and writers.
He indicated that the ministry will no longer be a white elephant ministry separated from industry players.

The policy development process would not be possible without the involvement of sectoral players.
The former president said, “The ministry is going to be your ministry, so it is not going to be some white elephant sitting there, and you are also sitting somewhere. You would be called to meetings in the ministry to decide on policy together.

There is no policy that we are going to do for the creative arts that will not require stakeholder intervention. I can promise you that. Your sector is going to be a key part of the 24-hour economy. And so you are one of the pillars of the 24-hour economy. Whatever incentives and budget are being done under the 24-hour economy will also affect the tourism and creative arts industries.”

He further pledged that a new NDC administration will strengthen and operationalize the Creative Arts Agency so it will be a one-stop shop for all creative arts and finalise it so it does what it is supposed to do.
