The Africa Center for Digital Transformation (ACDT) has advised banks, savings and loans institutions, and rural banks in Ghana to be mindful of an increased risk of cybercrime following a recent global tech failure.
A statement issued and signed by the Executive Director, Kwasi Atuahene explained that the faulty software update from cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike led to widespread system failures, impacting numerous sectors, including banking, aviation, and healthcare, globally.
It has also advised the financial institutions to be mindful about a fake CrowdStrike hotfix update circulating online.
ACDT recommends that Ghanaian banks activate backup systems and redundancies as part of efforts to help minimise the impact of the recent global IT outage and enhance their resilience against future incidents.
