Registered voters will today, December 7, participate in the presidential and parliamentary elections.
The 18,774,159 valid registered voters will vote to elect a president and 276 members of Parliament.
The polls will be held across more than40,000 polling stations, from 0700 to 1700hours.
The 2024 general election is the ninth under the Fourth Republic.
In total, 12 candidates are vying for the presidency, with former President John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as the main contenders.
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who is number one on the ballot, has been the vice president since 2017.
Bawumia is an economist known for championing digitalisation and financial reforms.
He holds degrees from Buckingham University, Oxford, and Simon Fraser University and has had an illustrious career in academia, banking, and governance.
John Dramani Mahama is a former president and served in that position from 2012 to 2017.
He is a seasoned politician with a history degree from the University of Ghana and postgraduate studies in communication and social psychology.
He previously served as a parliamentarian, minister, and vice president before ascending to the presidency.
