Executive Director for the Centre for Public Opinion and Awareness (CenPOA), Michael Donyina Mensah has explained there are two extreme scenarios that can come out of the outcome of the general elections.
He said judging from the level of power that President-elect John Dramani Mahama wields, that power can be extremely useful or beneficial, or it can be extremely disastrous.
‘’My point is that if John Dramani Mahama fails to use his powers responsibly, it will cause a lot of damage in the country. If well used, the president-elect can achieve a lot through the gains they’ve made in the elections. I think the reason why God made him win the election in a decisive manner was that he will be able to reset Ghana because we have a lot of provisions in our laws that ought to be reviewed. For the example, ex gratia. Mahama promised to scrap ex gratia. I am extremely happy that by this level of victory, he would be able to scrap ex gratia. He now has the power to push his agenda through parliament.
Mahama can be the greatest reformist we’ve ever had in our history. When taking out Kwame Nkrumah, the next greatest reformist we can have is John Dramani Mahama. But that will be determined by his resolve and commitment to the agenda of Ghana and not serving his party’s interest.
Speaking on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, he stated that Mr. Mahama has become a superior president as a result of his party’s victory and ability to secure a majority of seats in parliament.
”Mahama is currently the most powerful president in Ghanaian history. He will become the most powerful President of the Fourth Republic. Whatever he does with power will determine what happens in Ghana and how the country advances.”
