The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has opposed a directive issued by the Electoral Commission (EC) for a rerun of elections at an outstanding polling station in the Dome/Kwabenya constituency.
According to the party, the collation it had done places its parliamentary candidate as the winner in the constituency.
The EC disclosed on Saturday, December 28, 2024, that it would have to organise a fresh election at the Abokobi Women’s Development Centre 2 polling station because the pink sheet for the centre was missing.
Dr. Serebour Quaicoe, the EC’s Director of Training, told journalists in a media interview that the returning officers responsible for collating the constituency’s results reported that results from 367 polling stations had been successfully collated.
“The commission rejected one of them outrightly on the stance that it was declared on a wrong statement of poll because they used training sheets, which is not the one that they should use. So the commission has rejected one, so we decided to come and add the two and see what happens,” he said.
But the Deputy Director of Elections for the NDC, Rashid Tanko Computer, stated that
Elikplim Akurugu, the NDC’s candidate, won the parliamentary election in the constituency.
“There was a difference of 1,154 votes, and so if today we are having a problem with one polling station, that polling station should be taken out. The voter population for that polling station is 689, so when you deduct 689 from 1,154, your guess is as good as mine,” he posited.
