The Goaso Traditional Council has instituted a ban on public Valentine’s Day celebrations within the Goaso traditional area.
The ban was placed by the traditional leaders as part of preparations for the one-week observance of the late Paramount Chief, Nana Kwasi Bosomprah.
After a protracted illness, the late chief, who ruled for 17 years, died in December 2024. In a public statement, the Council stated that hotel accommodations, noisy parties, and other Valentine’s Day activities are completely prohibited.
The Council explained that the ban is to ensure unity and respect as the community mourns the late chief.
‘If you wish to celebrate Valentine’s Day, do it quietly in your room. No noisy celebrations, no Valentine parties. Anyone caught flouting these rules will face severe sanctions,’ the Council warned. ‘We are in mourning. A section of us cannot mourn while others make merry,’ the spokesperson added.
