President John Dramani Mahama has reappointed Dr George Smith-Graham as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC).
Dr Smith-Graham previously held this position from 2009 to 2017, during which he played a pivotal role in implementing the Single Spine Salary Structure, a key component of the FWSC Act, 2007 (Act 737).
He would be taking over from Mr Benjamin Arthur, a respected figure in labour relations who guided the FWSC from January 2022 until this week.
Dr Smith-Graham is expected to officially begin work on April 22, 2025.
Madam Emelia Ennin Abbey, the Head of Public Affairs at the FWSC, confirmed the appointment in a statement to the media.
Madam Ennin Abbey indicated that further details regarding Dr. Smith-Graham’s vision for the Commission would be shared following his assumption of office.
Dr Smith-Graham has over three decades of experience in compensation management, public service reforms, and strategic leadership.
He resigned as CEO of the Commission in February 2017.
He is expected to play a leading role in future pay and compensation management policies as the Government intends to transform the FWSC into an Independent Emoluments Commission.
