As part of the Mother’s Day Celebration, international radio station Rainbow Radio has organised a free health screening for women.
The screening exercise was held on Friday, May 9, 2025, at the premises of the Abelemkpe-based station.

It was not just about the screening, but the participants were treated to good music, entertainment and health education from medical professionals.
A team from Bloom Medical Centre took charge of the screening of those who participated in the exercise.

Head of the Emergency Unit at the facility, Takyi Kingsford, disclosed that the exercise has generally been successful.
He said the predominant condition that was highlighted was the BP conditions, which account for stroke cases in Ghana.

He lamented that the BP cases recorded were high, and yet, individuals were not concerned or paying attention to them.
The professional said they have advised some of these persons to visit any health facility to be examined.

He said the team also realised that some young persons below the age of 40 had high blood pressure (BP), saying it is more a respect of age, and so they should have it checked.
Takyi Kingsford said the other challenge we discovered was that some of them were not going fork-ups although they are aware of their condition.

He advised persons with BP conditions to always go for reviews and go for their drugs when they are finished so their cars don’t grow worse.
According to him, although they did not have any emergencies, there were cases of skyrocketing BPs as high as 270, which are termed hypertensive emergencies, and some of these cases have to go to the hospital to have medical attention as soon as possible.

He also revealed that the team recorded as high as 31.0 high Random Blood Sugar (RBS), which is very high and needs medical attention, where they would be detained and treated, and we have referred them to the appropriate places for medical care.
