Over the weekend, the Hon. Member of Parliament and the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Ablekuma West continued their regular morning keep-fit routine— this time walking through the Dansoman Opetey Kwei Electoral Area.
The walk, according to the MP and MCE, was more than just a walk; it was leadership in motion.
As they moved through the community, they engaged with residents, took note of development needs, and conducted on-site inspections of flood-prone areas.
The duo observed disturbing conditions — blocked gutters, poor sanitation, illegal structures, and buildings obstructing natural waterways, all contributing to recurrent flooding in the area.
Distressed by what they witnessed, the MP and MCE immediately directed the relevant authorities to begin work on dredging and clearing affected areas.
They also called for urgent stakeholder engagement to organise communal labour where machines may not be able to reach.
They also used the opportunity to meet and greet constituents, engage in heartfelt conversations, and visit some elderly residents in the community — a gesture that warmed the hearts of many. Several residents commended the MP and MCE, calling the move a great step that brings leadership closer to the people.
During the nearly four-hour walk, the MP and MCE reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to making Dansoman a flood-free zone.
They stressed that unauthorised developments on waterways must cease immediately and warned that demolitions may be enforced where necessary to restore proper drainage and prevent further flooding.
This initiative reflects their dedication to active leadership, community accountability, and sustainable development.
