The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) has confirmed that all Out Patients Department services, public health services, antenatal and postnatal care services, specialist clinic services, and all other types of emergency services will be discontinued effective today, June 4, 2025.
Acting Public Relations Officer Mr Philemon Agyapong confirmed that the withdrawal of these services will run until June 8, 2025, and should the government fail to address their concerns, they will trigger the next line of action.
He has therefore advised the Ghanaian public who are heading to any public health facility to stay home since they would have no nurse on duty to attend to them.
‘’The withdrawal of these services means that anyone leaving home to visit any public health facility should return because there would be no nurses or midwives on duty to attend to them. We expect the government to, with immediate effect, address our concerns, or we will have no other option than to withdraw all other services on June 9, 2025. From June 9, 2025, the withdrawal will affect all patients on admission, whether an emergency case or not; these patients will have no nurse on duty to attend to them.’’
He stated that, despite their concern for Ghanaians, the government has shown no interest in signing the service conditions.
”The government should show us respect. We are dissappointed because our conditions of service were not signed. Our members are disturbed and believe they are not respected. We care deeply about patients, which is why we issued a roadmap and did not withdraw our services all at once, and we should be given credit for that.”
He stated that they agreed on improved conditions of service in May 2024; however, the government has still not implemented them, hence their decision to embark on the strike.
