The Deputy Minister was particularly excited that Mr Asare had remained committed to ensuring that Ghana’s education sector was better, irrespective of who was in office.

Taking to Twitter, the Builsa South Member of Parliament admonished him to up his good works and ensure that government after government does better for the sector.

Dr Apaak also described Education Watch as the most impactful and respected civil society organisation championing better outcomes in the education sector.

In his message to Mr Asare, he wrote, “Kofi Asare, you have proven to be a true nationalist. Yours has always been to ensure that Ghana’s education system is fit for purpose regardless of which party is in power. Keep up the good work. EduWatch remains the most impactful and respected education sector CS”O.

Mr Kofi Asare was a member of the committee established by President John Dramani Mahama to organise the National Education Forum which was promised during the 2024 electioneering period.

The committee, led by the former Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, Professor George K. T. Oduro, organised stakeholder engagements across the country and submitted its report to the President last week.

The 148-page report contains a total of 212 recommendations from stakeholders and surveys.

According to the committee, the recommendations include 31 on basic education, 19 on the Free SHS policy, and 29 on tertiary education.

The document also includes the committee’s expert suggestions on how to shape the future of education in Ghana.

Prior to presenting the report, Mr Asare also made some brief remarks about the report, noting that it was three (3) months of very hard work, long travel on terrible roads, and sleepless nights putting together the opinions of over 20,000 stakeholders, while concurrently managing three projects at Eduwatch.
